The Enchanted Lady

The day had finally arrived. The rays of the early morning sun shimmered through the window over which, a graceful tree cast its shadow. An immense creeper had draped around the filigreed balcony of Princess Uruvi's bedroom, making her feel as if she was living in a treehouse as she basked in the freshness of early dawn, the golden sky auspiciously cloudless. "Finally! It's my day!" she said in an effused manner. She woke up and saw her palace immensely decorated with alstroemerias, calla lilies, daisies and lilies. All the marvelous flowers were like her, magnificent , glamourous and ravishing. And they decorated the palace as Uruvi used to decorate her family and her Kingdome with happiness and joy. But today, this flower will be gone...

The graceful lady finally got ready for her momentous day. She wore the richest and the most dazzling gown mended with golden threads. She wore the heaviest jewelry with a buoyant smile on her face. She was the most stunning lady in the Kingdome and why wouldn't she? She was the princess of Phukhiya.

Everyone knew, she will marry Prince Arjun. And why wouldn't she?  He was the strongest and the bravest worrier in the whole world. He was the greatest archer and an undefeatable hero. He was charming and every girl dreamt of him. He loved Uruvi since childhood and today, he will finally have her. Even Uruvi was a great friend of him but will she make him as her life partner? the locals were puzzled with such questions. "Just a matter sometime, and our Princess Uruvi will be queen of some Kingdome." They said with excitement.

The princess stepped in. The hall was filled with all the extraordinary kings. From all the 100 sons of Dhritarashtra to 5 pandavs and Krishna. Each and every king beheld her beauty. The aroma of her perfume filled the hall. The bride looked ethereal, her face radiant like her flowing silks. Her dark eyes sparkled as brilliantly as the glittering jewels adorning her. With a magnificent garland in her bejewelled hands, her eyes downcast, she did not look up at the valiant princes infront of her. The priests solemnly chanted mantras invoking peace and blessings as King Vahusha led his most prized possession by the hand to the centre of the suddenly quiet hall.

"Hear all! This is my daughter's swayamvar. There is no test of bravery or archery, my daughter will garland whom she wishes. You may go ahead Uruvi." King Vahusha said and stepped back.

The enchanted lady moved ahead with the garland. Will it be Arjun? or Krishna? or  Yudhishthir? everyone waited for the moment and in the fullest of time, she garlanded. But... it was not Arjun, not Krishna or not Yudhishthir... It was someone else...

                                                   To be continued...
